Singer DLS Project: the best Porsche 911? £2mil, 9,300rpm

Here it is, the Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer – Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS, if you value your time). It’s the answer to the simplest of questions: “What if we pursued the ultimate, no-compromise air-cooled 911? And what if we touched it with a Formula One team?” But is this 500bhp, 9,300rpm restomod worth its £2million price tag? Well, we sent Top Gear’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, to Wales to find out. Trust us, this one is worth cleaning your ears out and turning the volume up for.

962 Koenig C62 (Porsche 962 road conversion)

“Race car for the road” blah blah blah. People say it all the time. THIS is a race car for the road. And not some rally special or touring car, it’s a Group C prototype. The kind that goes 250 mph down the Mulsanne straight, the kind that wins Le Mans 6 times in a row and then comes back and wins again 7 years later just because. And someone (Koenig-Specials) made a street legal version of it, so of course Derek Tam-Scott drove it on the street. In this video, he explores the background of the Porsche 956 and 962, which together represent one of the most successful race car franchises of all time. For years, they were indomitable, routinely filling most or all of the top ten positions in the races in which they competed, both in America’s IMSA series and the global World Endurance Championship / Group C events. Porsche and the private teams who ran these cars did this through intense technical innovation and relentless development, which made it all the more remarkable that several tuners built street-legal versions. Derek drives the car on the road a) to establish what it’s really like in this environment and b) for the hell of it. This car is for sale on issimi.com. BTS (behind the scenes) with DTS: Derek Tam-Scott’s spirit age is excess of 75 years old, and nowhere is that clearer than his taste in cars. At age 16, he went to work at one of the United States' foremost vintage car dealers, which cemented his elderly taste. Now with a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving, and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced many of the world’s most iconic cars. And even liked some of them. Most of the car enthusiasts of Derek’s generation (and well, let’s be honest, even a generation or two before him) don’t have much experience with the magic of vintage cars prior to the 1980s, and therefore lack the knowledge and exposure to get genuinely excited about them. The goal of BTS is to give an insider’s perspective on why these cars particularly are great...or at least interesting and noteworthy. Derek brings his encyclopedic knowledge and broad experience together to contextualize these cars to give the audience understanding of both why it matters, and what it’s actually like to experience the cars. Volvo P1800 Cyan Racing review | Amazing restomod tested | Autocar

There's not much original P1800 left. Cyan takes a few bits of the structure and rebuilds an entire car around it, including a 2.0-lire 414bhp turbocharged engine, double-wishbone suspension all around and plenty of carbon fibre. The result is a car that costs nearly £400,000 and weighs just 990kg. Cyan doesn't quote 0-60mph numbers of a top speed, but given the P1800 Cyan has no driver aids and a manual gearbox, we reckon it'll hit 60mph in under 5.0seconds and go on to 170mph.

Moto Technique - The EVO Program

Moto Technique 40th WSM Black.jpg

To celebrate our 40th Anniversary we are launching our EVO Program. For nearly 35 years we restored all our customer cars virtually nut and bolt perfect to period correct specification. Most modern cars are now too big, too powerful and too clinical. Some say, too sterile. Clients are now approaching us and telling us how much they love classics like the Dino 246 and Ferrari 308, but these cars are getting on for 40 and 50 years old. They want to drive them, but they also want modern standards of power, handling and reliability, whilst retaining the charm and character of the original. At Moto Technique we have probably restored, repaired or upgraded more Dino’s and Ferrari 308’s than anyone else in the UK. We really do know these cars inside out and back to front. That’s why we know all the areas where we can improve these wonderful machines and adapt them with more modern upgrades that just were not available at the time of manufacture or not viable for a production car due to cost effectivness. Our EVO Program is bespoke and based on a menu system of different specifications and finishes. This program really is limited only by a customer’s imaginations.

Jaguar E-Type: Gwendoline

Kenny Lombino grew up loving cars, and owes his early interest to his father, an enthusiast in his own right. Growing up outside of New York, Kenny remembers visiting the NY Auto Show with his father each year, but 1961 proved to be a particularly special edition as it marked the first time Kenny saw a Jaguar E-Type. As an eight-year-old, he vowed to grow up and own one, and as you can see in today’s film, he kept his promise. Following a trip across Europe that culminated in watching E-Types duking it out on the track at the Silverstone Classic, Kenny decided to have his E-Type coupe modified comprehensively, from weight reduction to powertrain to suspension and brakes. The result is an E-Type that’s perfect for spirited drives in the mountains—a car that lives up to a lifetime of ongoing hype.

Canepa and his 800-horsepower Porsche 959 SC

The Porsche 959 was the greatest supercar the world had seen when it was first put on sale in the mid-1980s. Yet here in America, it wasn't possible to buy one — at first. Enter Bruce Canepa. With help from a friend, Canepa was able to purchase one and drive it in the states on a tourist Visa, and the rest is history. Following that fateful year, he embarked on a journey to federalize the 959 with customers including Bill Gates, and since then has worked tirelessly to make 959s legal here for whoever can purchase one — and also modify them to be the best that they can be. In the video above, Canepa talks about what he did to bring the 959 onto our streets plus what he is currently doing to boost the power output while keeping them street legal. Watch what it's like to be the forerunner on the Porsche 959.
