Superamerica comes from a Ferrari tradition in naming one-off or limited production cars with special names, in this case, taken from the famous 12 cylinder Superamerica cars built between 1956 and 1961.
What makes the Ferrari 575 Superamerica special is an electronically controlled Revochromico rotating hardtop that with a flip of a switch, rotates the roof to over and onto the trunk, to a lie flat position, leaving the owner with the ability to enjoy their car no matter the weather.

Pull down the locking handle, pull the little toggle switch on the center console, and voila, the roof rotates back and snugly flat into place in just 10 seconds.

As well, that rotating roof holds another trick; the transparency of the glass can be controlled by varying the amount of electric current running through it. From fully opaque to nearly clear in a matter of minutes is all controlled by a button.
The already monster 5.7 L 12 cylinder 575 motor was bumped up from 508 HP to 533 HP by reducing the back pressure to the exhaust system, and now that famous 12 cylinder note is so much more enjoyable with the top down.
Ferrari build sheets state the 575 Superamerica weight at 200 lbs. more than the coupe due to structural strengthening, but the added horse power makes up for the increased weight and the Ferrari 575 Superamerica accelerates from zero to 60 MPH in a scant 4.2 seconds with the F-1 transmission.

Billed as the fastest convertible in the world, at 199 MPH, it certainly lived up to the title.

Only 559 Superamericas were built, and their low production numbers and unique design make them very sought after by sports car enthusiasts.

Blending the romance of a convertible with the practicality of a coupe, the Superamerica is a truly rare collectible.

Straight away you realize something’s a bit different about this Dino. The wheels are beefier, the arches are angrier, the sound it makes doesn’t sync with your memory of these cars (probably because there are two extra intake trumpets underneath the transparent engine cover), and while the badging looks factory-correct, you don’t think there was ever an Evo version of the mid-engined sports car named after Enzo’s tragic son. The car is a one-off, and it’s part of the venerable collection of classic and modern Ferraris owned by collector David Lee. By borrowing a block from the F40, losing the turbos, boring it from 2.9 to 3.6L, and fixing twin banks of velocity stacks, David’s “Monza 3.6 Evo” is a naturally-aspirated screamer that combines modern performance with the Dino’s ageless style in a package that doesn’t compromise on either end. NEW Lancia Stratos 2019 Driven: The Legend is Back!



Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) will unveil its revival of the iconic Lancia Stratos at the Geneva Motor Show, and getting one of the 25 units of the so-called New Stratos will be a rather expensive undertaking, according to Automotive News Europe. The model by itself will start at 500,000 euros ($618,000), but customers will also have to supply a Ferrari 430 Scuderia donor car – an estimated additional value of $108,821, according to Kelley Blue Book
MAT will take the 430 Scuderia and will slice 7.9 inches (200 millimeters) out of the Ferrari's wheelbase. A modified intake and exhaust will boost the 4.3-liter V8 to 533 horsepower (397 kilowatts) from the original 503 hp (375 kW). Additional options will allow customers to take the output as high as 600 hp (447 kW).

Exciting stuff from Autocar today as we try some modernised classics - restomods, if you like. This isn't a conventional group test, because the three cars we've assembled all do very different things. The Alfaholics GTA-R is an Alfa Romeo 105-series coupe that has seen the mother of all makeovers. With 240bhp and weighing just 840kg, its power-to-weight ratio is some 290bhp/tonne (hence the name) and fully seam welded, with carbonfibre panels and bespoke engine and gearbox internals and suspension, it's a true track car. The Jensen Interceptor R by Jensen International Automotive is more road car than track car. But don't think that this reworked Interceptor is slow: JIA has squeezed a supercharged Chevy LSA engine under the hood, making more than 550bhp. But, as we'll see, it may be more cruiser than sports car. Sitting somewhere between the two, in ethos, is a Porsche 911 modified and modernised by renowned specialists Tuthill. They'll do almost anything you want to a 911 but here they've taken an early 70s 911 E and made it all-round lovelier. It's a terrific blend of road and track performance.
